Assessing Site-Specific Impacts from Oil & Gas Production

CHALLENGE

Analyze the potential impacts of proposed oil and gas production wells, associated gas gathering pipeline, and access roads on tribal land to assist the BLM in project planning and compliance with NEPA.

APPROACH

LTE evaluated various resources, including threatened and endangered species, wetlands, migratory birds, and culturally important plant species in areas of specific drill sites. Of particular concern was the potential presence of burrowing owl nesting activity concurrent with planned construction activity. Therefore, complete surveys were recommended prior to construction to verify the species had not moved into the Proposed Action Area.

RESULT

The resulting EAs presented to the BLM included details on precautionary and protective measures to minimize impacts to critical elements of the environment.
