Chlorinated Solvent Treatment of Groundwater to Maintain Dewatering in Train Tunnel
Putting an infrastructure below ground via tunneling creates many challenges, especially when tunnels are designed to continuously dewater groundwater. Those challenges become even more complex as that tunnel bisects an existing contaminated groundwater plume. Our client needed a better way to manage the treatment and discharge of groundwater for the life of the tunnel.
LTE engineers reviewed the existing design for the facility and were able to engineer a smart solution that reduced the volume of influent water, expedited removal of contaminants, and ensured compliance with the wastewater discharge permit. LTE designed modifications to the system skids, tunnel influent channel repairs, and additional treatment skids to enhance the system and created more efficiency for operations and maintenance (O&M).
LTE’s forethought, engineering designs, installations, and modifications made the system manageable for the next 50 years of anticipated operations, cutting O&M costs by more than 50%. Our ideas and approach created a trusted solution that decreased system downtime and virtually eliminated the shutdown threat to light-rail operations.
