Achieving Remediation Success in Unique Regulatory/ Property Owner Environment in an Area of Complex Hydrogeologic Conditions
It is no surprise that storage of gasoline and diesel below ground may result in environmental issues over the long term. When the environmental issues are being managed by a state-led funding program and sites with leaking underground storage tanks (USTs) are compiled into larger groups, the challenges associated with effectively remediating the contamination are compounded.
LTE provided site assessments for 148 UST sites in Rock Springs, Cheyenne, and Casper, Wyoming. We evaluated impacts to soil and groundwater to determine what level of remediation would be necessary to achieve regulatory compliance. We then used our 25 years of experience and foresight to create innovative and efficient designs and solutions to address impacts. The remediation of this large portfolio of complex sites included design and specifications for contractor bidding, oversight of remedial measures implementation, and ongoing operations and maintenance, and monitoring. The scope included excavations, active air sparging /soil vapor extraction systems, injection programs, and many natural attenuation programs.
The innovative and continuous technological advances over the life of the program have resulted in closure of more than 50 sites to date.
